How to care for a performance hat without ruining its shape

Three steps, one thing to avoid, and your cap outlasts most of the rotation.

Hands rinsing a white NOGNS cap under a tap in a bright sink

Machine washability is not a verified claim for NOGNS caps. Which is fine — the care routine below takes about five minutes and works better anyway.

The routine

  1. Hand-rinse the cap in cool water with a small amount of mild detergent.
  2. Reshape the crown by hand — press the panels back into shape while wet.
  3. Air dry away from direct sun and heat. Set it over a can, a mug, or a hat form to hold shape while it dries.

What to avoid

  • Tumble dryers — heat plus tumbling collapses crown structure.
  • Bleach — kills dye stability on bright colorways.
  • Ironing — flattens perforation and embroidery.
  • Dry cleaning — solvents aren't kind to the sweatband.

That's the whole system.
